Netflix has released a trailer for the
much anticipated 8-episode series based on the film Wet Hot
American Summer.
The 2001 movie directed by David Wain
returns July 31 as Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp
with every one of its original stars, including Bradley Cooper,
Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Janeane Garofalo, Christopher Meloni,
Michael Ian Black and Paul Rudd.
Joining the film's original cast are
John Slattery, Lake Bell, Richard Schiff, Josh Charles, Rich Sommer,
“Weird Al” Yankovic, Michael Cera, Chris Pine, Jon Hamm and
Kristen Wiig.
Wet Hot American Summer was a
commercial and critical flop – earning a meager $295,000 in the
United States – but went on to become a cult hit.
In Cooper's first
feature film, he played Ben, a gay man who made out with Michael Ian
Black's McKinley in a sports shed.
Netflix's show is a
prequel to the original movie, taking place on the first day of Camp
Firewood instead of the last.
In the nearly
3-minute trailer, Ben and McKinley nervously trade “what?” and
“nothing” as they check each other out. (The video is embedded
