Discovery Life Channel on Saturday
premiered its newest reality series New Girls on the Block.
The docu-series follows the lives of
five transgender friends living in Kansas City, including best
friends Kassidy and Chloe, who are transitioning together; couple
Tanya and Jaime, who are dealing with child-related issues with
Tanya's ex-wife; married couple Macy and Sharon, whose relationship
is evolving during Macy's transition; and couple Robyn and Andrew,
previously best friends before Robyn's transition.
“With New Girls on the Block,
Discovery Life Channel looks to provide a bridge to a world of
acceptance of the transgender community through our honest portrayal
– and entertaining look – at these women's lives,” Jane Latman,
general manager of Discovery Life Channel, said in announcing the
show.
Interviewed on the 26th
annual GLAAD Media Awards red carpet, Macy said that she wants the
media to focus more on the lives of transgender people and less on
their transitions.
“It would be nice if the media would
portray our lives and not focus on surgeries and those types of
things,” she
said. “Just focus on our lives. And New Girls on the Block
is a show like that and hopefully people will love it and watch it.”
