Out actor Andrew Rannells on Sunday put
in his last performance as Hedwig in the Tony-winning Broadway
musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
Hedwig, which had a long
off-Broadway run at New York City's Jane Street Theater and was later
turned into a movie in 2001 starring John Cameron Mitchell in the
title role, tells the story of a transgender rock musician's search
for “my other half.”
“My last day at @HedwigOnBway,”
Rannells tweeted. “I'm so honored to have played this amazing
role. Thank you for all the love and support!”
Rannells, who replaced Neil Patrick
Harris in August, will be replaced by Michael C. Hall.
Hall's Broadway resume includes playing
the M.C. in Cabaret and Billy Flynn in Chicago. Most
recently he starred in The Realistic Joneses. In
television, Hall played gay funeral home owner David Fisher for five
seasons on the HBO drama Six Feet Under.
