A national group which promotes
marriage equality on Friday released a television ad urging the
Supreme Court to consider one or more of the five cases challenging
state bans currently on its docket.
The ad, titled It's Time, will
air on Sunday during morning news shows in the Washington, D.C.
market and on cable news next week.
Justices will hold a closed-door
meeting on Monday to discuss the cases.
“One nation, indivisible – except
if you're gay,” a female narrator says in the 30-second clip. In
the 30 states where gay couples are excluded from marriage “they
are taxed unfairly, denied Social Security and parenting rights, and
can lose a family home when their loved one dies,” the narrator
adds. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit
our video library for more videos.)
Evan Wolfson, president of Freedom to
Marry, said the ad “underscores the human costs of prolonging
marriage discrimination.”
“Every day of denial is a day of real
and needless injury, indignity and injustice for too many families
across the country – and time matters. America is ready for the
freedom to marry, 40 lower court rulings have affirmed the freedom to
marry, even opponents are saying it's time to bring the country to
national resolution – and it is, indeed, time.”
