Tennis legend Martina Navratilova
proposed to her longtime girlfriend Julia Lemigova at the US Open on
Saturday.
Navratilova popped the question during
a break from her commenting duties for the Tennis Channel.
“We've been together six years and I
can't imagine my life without you,” she said on bended knee.
“Please marry me?”
The New York Post's Page Six
reported that Navratilova, 57, presented Lemigova, 42, with a
three carat diamond engagement ring.
The crowd roared when the moment was
broadcast on the jumbotrons at the Arthur Ashe Stadium where the US
Open is taking place.
A source said the couple plans to marry
in Miami-Dade, Florida.
“Martina wants to hold the wedding
there to campaign for gay marriage equality in Florida and
elsewhere,” the
source said.
Lemigova, a former beauty queen, has
two children from a previous marriage and is the founder and CEO of
luxury skincare line Russie Blance.
