British singer Sam Smith provides some
advice to gay people thinking about coming out.
The 22-year-old Smith revealed last
month that his single In the Lonely Hour is about unrequited
love between himself and another man.
In a radio interview with New York's
Fresh 102.7, Smith reiterated that he's never been in a relationship.
When asked what advice he would give a
gay person thinking about coming out, Smith answered, “be
“Just be yourself and don't make
[your sexuality] an issue. If others around you are making [it] an
issue, I understand – fight for your rights, of course. But also,
let's make it a normality. To make it equal we kind of need to act
equal, if you know what I mean,” he
“The world is getting better in some
places. It's getting worse in some places. But everyone needs to
just focus on themselves as individuals and do what makes them happy.
