National Organization for Marriage (NOM) President Brian Brown on Thursday quoted President Abraham Lincoln at the group's second annual March for Marriage.

Thursday's rally and march to the steps of the Supreme Court featured two former presidential candidates, Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee, as well as New York State Senator Ruben Diaz, Sr., a Democrat, and San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone. Kansas Rep. Tim Huelskamp, sponsor of a bill which seeks to insert an amendment to the U.S. Constitution defining marriage as a heterosexual union, also addressed the crowd.

Cordileone spoke at the event despite a pressure campaign to get him to ditch the event.

“We know that some day,” Brown told the crowd, “whether it's one year, ten years, twenty years, or decades from now, people will look back at this time and remember those of us who stood up for the truth.”

“And as Abraham Lincoln said, 'When the mystic cords of memory are touched by the angels of our higher nature, they will remember not only that we stood on the right side of truth but we stand on the right side of history.'” (The video is embedded on this page.
