A man in Salt Lake City is holding a
one-man demonstration for marriage equality dressed as a duck.
David Granato walked around Sugar House
Park on Saturday in a duck costume holding a placard which read,
“Ducks fighting for same-sex marriage.”
Granato
told Fox 13 that he thinks ducks are the perfect animal to
advocate the issue.
“I see ducks,” Granato said. “They
take bread from anyone, regardless of race, sexuality, or gender.
So, I thought ducks would be the best people – or animal rather –
to represent animals that would [be] fighting for rights.”
Response to his unique demonstration
has ranged from support to death threats, Granato said.
A federal judge in December struck down
Utah's ban on gay marriage. Currently, the case is before an appeals
court, which is expected to rule before the end of summer.
