President Barack Obama on Tuesday
reiterated his support for marriage equality in a tweet.
The
message – sent from the White House's Twitter account –
included an embedded photo of the president and quoted Obama as
saying, “When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who
they are or whom they love, we are all more free.”
The White House asked followers to
retweet the message “if you agree: Every American should be able to
marry the person they love.”
The tweet was retweeted more than 2,800
times and favorited more than 1,300 times.
The message was sent a day after Oregon
became the 18th state to allow gay couples to marry and
roughly four hours after a federal judge struck down Pennsylvania's
ban on gay marriage.
