Following an op-ed in which he praised
Russian President Vladimir Putin for protecting children from gay
“propaganda,” Franklin Graham, the son of evangelist Billy
Graham, has urged the United States to approve a similar law.
Graham praised Putin for signing a bill
which prohibits the promotion of gay “propaganda” to minors.
“In my opinion, Putin is right on
these issues,” Graham
wrote. “Obviously, he may be wrong about many things, but he
has taken a stand to protect his nation's children from the damaging
effects of any gay and lesbian agenda.”
In a videotaped interview with the
Charlotte Observer, Graham said that Putin was protecting kids
from being exploited.
“Gays and lesbians cannot have
children. Biologically it's impossible,” Graham said.
“They adopt,” the interviewer
noted.
“Yeah, they can recruit. Yeah,
sure,” Graham said with a smile.
“What's the difference between
recruitment and adoption?”
“Well, I think that you can adopt a
child into a marriage but you can also recruit children into your
cause. I believe in protecting children, okay, from exploitation,
all exploitations. I think I agreed with Putin. I think protecting
his nation's children was probably a very smart thing to do.”
“And I think that our Congress needs
to do more in protecting our nation's children.”
Franklin added that Congress and the
Obama administration were “going forward with a gay and lesbian
agenda.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit
