Roughly two months after coming out, Olympian Brian Boitano has called Michael Sam brave for coming out.

Sam is the 24-year-old college football player and solid NFL draft prospect who came out gay Sunday. If drafted, Sam would become the NFL's first openly gay player.

In an appearance on HuffPost Live, Boitano, the 1988 Olympic figure skating champion, was asked to weigh in on Sam's decision to publicly discuss his sexual orientation.

“First of all, he's a very brave young man. And it was all a matter of time before someone did this. But the way I look at it, he's going to work. It's his job. I don't know why people would be concerned about the locker room. He's working, so it's nothing more than that.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
