Playwright David Bar Katz has denied telling the National Enquirer that he and the late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman were lovers.

Katz and Isabella Wing-Davey, Hoffman's personal assistant, found Hoffman, 46, dead on the bathroom floor of the apartment he was renting after he split from his partner Mimi O'Donnell before Christmas. O'Donnell asked Katz and Wing-Davey to check on Hoffman after he failed to pick up their three children as scheduled.

“We were homosexual lovers,” the tabloid quoted Katz as saying. “We had a relationship.”

The magazine also claimed that Katz told them that he had seen Hoffman take heroin on numerous occasions.

“I never said that, no,” Katz, a 44-year-old married father of four, told reporters Wednesday.

The supermarket tabloid claimed that Hoffman's confusion over his sexuality ripped apart his 14-year relationship with O'Donnell and fueled his drug relapse.

Katz posted on Facebook a photo of himself and Hoffman along with the caption “He is so beautiful.”
