San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon
Leonard Davis believes the NFL will be the first professional sports
league to have a major athlete come out gay.
The 30-year-old Davis, who is
considered one of the top tight ends in the NFL, predicted we are 5
or 6 years away from a major professional athlete coming out.
“I think within the next 5 to 6 years
you'll see a lot of gay guys come out into the world of sports,”
Davis said during an appearance on Larry King Now.
“Will the NFL be the last place?”
host Larry King asked.
“I think the NFL will be the first
place.”
“Really? Before baseball or
basketball? One basketball player came out but nobody signed him,”
