Actor Keanu Reeves has endorsed gay
marriage in Uruguay.
Last year, Uruguay became only the
second South American nation after Argentina to allow gay and lesbian
couples to marry. More recently, lawmakers legalized marijuana.
“Yes it sounds very progressive,”
Reeves
said of the laws. “Such things should be happening in other
counties.”
The 49-year-old Reeves is in Montevideo
– the nation's largest city, chief port and capital – to attend
the wedding of colleague and friend Carl Rinsch.
Rinsch directed Reeves in the fantasy
action film 47 Ronin, which
opened on Christmas Day.
On Thursday, Rinsch married Gabriela
Roses, a model from Uruguay. The couple met during a publicity shoot
in Mexico. Rinsch will also film an ad campaign for the clothing
store Opera while in Uruguay.
Reeves told Channel 12 that it was
“very exciting” to be in Montevideo and that it was his first
time visiting Uruguay.
