Openly gay journalist Itay Hod says
media outlets are obligated to expose the hypocrisy of closeted
politicians.
In
a Facebook post, Hod wrote about a hypothetical GOP congressman
from Illinois who has denied rumors he's gay, voted against repeal of
“Don't Ask, Don't Tell” and favors an amendment to the U.S.
Constitution which defines marriage as a heterosexual union.
“Are we still not allowed to out
him?” Hod rhetorically asked. “Let me ask another question...
doesn't the media have an OBLIGATION to expose his hypocrisy? If he
had done something this hypocritical and he wasn't gay, wouldn't we
demand journalists do their job? But they can't... because we won't
let them. You're not allowed to out ANYONE, we tell them. We've
created a situation where even though news organizations know this
guy is gay, they can't report it because he hasn't said so on
Twitter.”
The post included a link to an
AmericaBlog story titled Gayest Aaron Schock Instagram Posts of
2013.
Hod dropped the pretense of a
hypothetical congressman on Twitter.
“i've decided we should help this guy
come out of the closet. how about a good hashtag...
#hasaaronschockcomeoutyet?” he messaged to his more than 3,300
followers.
