A parent looking for advice from
televangelist Pat Robertson on what to do about a son's coming out,
was told to ask whether he was molested.
“My 16-year-old son says he's gay.
What do I do?” the parent wrote in to Robertson.
“I think you need to pray for him,”
Robertson
answered. “ I think you need to counsel with him.”
“Is there really a biological thing
going on? Or has he been influenced? Has a coach molested him? …
These kids are in a formative state and sure they may have some
attractions to people of the same sex. I mean, they don't know what
they are doing; they're teenagers. So, some, you know, they go for
the opposite sex. Some are attracted to one another. And there are
a lot of things that happen. So, don't write him off. I think what
you need to do is talk to him, counsel with him. And be
understanding,” Robertson said, stressing the need to be
understanding. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit
