Cabler OWN's upcoming Houston Beauty
reality show features transgender teen Mia.
The show, which premieres Saturday,
takes a look at the students working for a cosmetology license at
Franklin Beauty School in Houston, Texas. The Jemison Family has
owned and operated the school for 98 years, making it one of the
oldest beauty schools in the country.
Mrs. J., known as “Mama J.,” helps
put the students on a path for success.
“For many of their students, the
stakes are high as they have major barriers to overcome in their
lives,” the show's description reads. “A cosmetology license
would mean a whole new life for them – but only if they can
overcome their personal struggles along the way.”
According to her bio, Mia left home at
the age of 13 to escape her family's lack of support and eventually
turned to escorting to support herself.
