The HBO documentary Valentine Road takes a look at the death of gay teen Lawrence King.

The film, whose October 7 premiere will kick off the fall season of HBO Docs, documents the heartbreaking circumstances that led to the shocking school shooting of 15-year-old King.

On the morning of February 12, 2008, King was shot twice in the head during a computer class. He died in the hospital on Valentine's Day. His assailant was a classmate just 14 years old at the time. It is believed that King was shot because he was gay and either had a crush on Brandon McInerney or delighted in teasing the boy.

The gruesome murder, which attracted national headlines, also divided a California community as officials attempted to prosecute McInerney as an adult for the murder. (A trailer for the film is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
