Anti-gay activist Peter LaBarbera and Christian conservative Linda
Harvey over the weekend agreed that discriminating against gays was a
sign of a healthy society.
Harvey, the founder of the Columbus, Ohio-based Mission America
and a frequent contributor to the conservative website WND.com, was
troubled that the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network
(GLSEN), which works to create a safe space in schools for children
who are or may be perceived to be LGBT, had launched its Transgender
Student Rights initiative.
LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality,
suggested that groups such as GLSEN are attempting to make kids gay
and transgender, which he connected to HIV.
“Why in the world are we doing this to kids?” Harvey
rhetorically asked. “You know, a self-destructive society would do
those kinds of things, wouldn't they? And look at us.”
“Yes,” LaBarbera answered. “A healthy society discriminates
against perverse and dangerous and unhealthy behaviors such as
homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism. That's what a healthy
society does.”
