A Council Bluffs, Iowa youth pastor who has confessed to having sex with 4 teenage boys won't serve jail time.

Thirty-one-year-old Brent Giroeux, a married father of four, told police that starting in 2007 he had sex with four young men. He said that it was his duty to “help [them] with homosexual urges by praying while he had sexual contact with [them].”

According to the victims, Giroeux explained to them that having sex with him was a way to gain “sexual purity in the eyes of God.”

Four additional boys have since come forward to allege that Giroeux had sex with them. One of the young men Giroeux admits to having sex with lasted 4 years and started when he was 14.

After pleading guilty to third-degree sexual abuse, Giroeux was sentenced to 17 years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for life. However, the judge in the case suspended the jail time so that Giroeux could receive treatment.

According to KETV, the pastor at Victory Fellowship Church, where Giroeux was an unpaid volunteer, called on Giroeux to turn himself in to police after several boys came to him for help.
