WWE wrestler Darren Young (real name Fredrick Douglas “Fred” Rosser) has come out gay, making him the WWE's first openly gay wrestler.

The 29-year-old Young came out in the course of being asked how the WWE would react if a wrestler came out gay and whether a gay wrestler could succeed in the sport.

“Absolutely,” Young told a TMZ.com cameraman Wednesday at a Los Angeles airport terminal. “Look at me. I'm a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy. I'm very happy.”

“I'm hoping to be able to make a difference, you know. It's very important to me that people understand that someone's sexual preference shouldn't really matter, you know. It should be about the person,” he added.

When asked how his colleagues would react, Young answered: “We're all adults. All sports are physical, you know. And to be honest with you, when I come to work, I come to work. Business is business. I'm a WWE superstar, I'm there to entertain the WWE universe and that is what my job is to do. And I do it well.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
