Eric McCormack, who played gay lawyer
Will Truman for 8 seasons on the NBC comedy Will & Grace,
agrees that the show influenced the gay marriage debate.
Last year, Vice President Joe Biden
credited the series with breaking down barriers.
“When things really began to change
is when the social culture changes,” Biden said on Meet the
Press. “I think Will & Grace probably did more to
educate the American public than almost anybody's ever done so far.
People fear that which is different. Now, they're beginning to
understand.”
McCormack noted Biden's mention during
an appearance on HuffPost Live.
“When Biden came out last year and
started talking about the show having influenced gay marriage, it was
like, 'Yeah, we kinda did.' We weren't intending it, we were just
intending to be funny, but now it exists as this template for America
for something that they would have never understood or gone near,”
McCormack told host Josh Zepps. (The video is embedded on this page.
