Retired NFL player Matt Birk claims
Chris Kluwe and Brendon Ayanbadejo are “against traditional
marriage.”
Kluwe and Ayanbadejo are the NFL's most
outspoken supporters of marriage equality, while Birk, who announced
his retirement in February, is the league's most outspoken opponent.
Thirty-one year old Kluwe, a punter for
the Oakland Raiders, and his wife Isabel are raising two daughters.
Ayanbadejo, 36, a former member of the Baltimore Ravens, is raising a
son and a daughter with his wife.
Appearing
this week on FRC radio, Birk said that both football players were
opposed to “traditional marriage.”
“With the Ravens, we had one person
who was really outspoken, was really against traditional marriage.
And he got a lot of headlines,” Birk told Washington Watch
host Tony Perkins. “And one of my former teammates on the Vikings
was the same way. And they got a lot of press. But actually the
Baltimore Ravens, we had six guys sign a statement that said we
unequivocally believe that marriage is defined as one man and one
woman.”
