Paul Katami and Jeff Zarillo, one of
the two couples challenging the constitutionality of Proposition 8,
California's gay marriage ban, say getting married wouldn't affect
anyone else's marriage.
The Burbank, California couple together
12 years told Brenda Gazzar of L.A. Daily News that they would
be in Washington on Monday, one of at least 2 opinion days left in
the Supreme Court's term.
Katami and Zarillo said they remained
hopeful that the court would strike down marriage bans throughout the
nation.
“It would be a knee-buckling moment
because it would be the first time in our history that the Supreme
Court handed down a ruling that applies marriage to the [gay]
community,” said
Katami, 40.
“We just want to get married,”
Katami added. “And that not only benefits our lives, it benefits
our community. It doesn't really affect anyone else's [marriage].
Zarillo, 39, said that people
understand the vocabulary of marriage, such as referring to his
partner as his husband.
