An exclusive story from E! Online
declaring that singer Justin Bieber is gay turned out to be another
Twitter hack.
“Exclusive: Justin Bieber E!online:
I'm a gay,” messaged E! on Saturday.
“Exclusive: Selena Gomez tells E! she
will fully supporting [sic] Justin in his coming out,” a second
fake tweet read.
In a final tweet, the Syrian Electronic
Army claimed credit for hacking into E!'s Twitter account and sending
the fake headlines. The group of hackers are believed to be closely
aligned with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
“The Syrian Electronic Army was here!
Fans of @justinbieber, you have been trolled by @Official_SEA12
#SEA,” the final fake tweet read.
Another tweet from the group read that
“Angelina Jolie admits, in E! latest issue, that Jordan is to blame
for the Syrian refugees' atrocious conditions.”
Mashable.com
reported that the tweets, which were retweeted thousands of times,
contain links that when clicked may take users to damaging sites.
Last week, the Syrian Electronic Army
took credit for hacking The Associated Press' Twitter feed and
announcing that the White House was under attack and that President
Barack Obama had been injured.
