Kathy Bates is set to play a lesbian in
the upcoming comedy film Tammy.
The 64-year-old Bates will play one of
the two women (the second being played by Susan Sarandon) who hit the
open road with the film's protagonist (Melissa McCarthy, Identity
Thief), who decides on a road trip after she loses her fast-food
job and finds out her husband is cheating on her.
The New Line Cinema production is
expected to begin filming around Wilmington, North Carolina on
Friday. Filming is expected to take place next week at the local
eatery Two Fat Ladies Over a Simmering.
According to Variety, Beth
McCarthy-Miller was originally set to direct the movie but she backed
out over scheduling issues. Melissa McCarthy and her husband Ben
Falcone (Bridesmaids, Identity Thief), who together wrote the
script, are now behind the camera.
