Michael Strahan, a 14-year NFL veteran and co-host of the television morning talk show Live! With Kelly and Michael, believes an openly gay NFL player is inevitable.

The 41-year-old Strahan and his Live! co-host, Kelly Ripa, cover the current issue of The Hollywood Reporter's New York Issue.

Appearing on the red carpet for an event celebrating the issue's release, Strahan was asked his thoughts on an openly gay NFL player.

“I think eventually there will be [an openly gay NFL player]. A lot of guys now speaking up. I did a same-sex marriage equality ad with my fiancee [Nicole Murphy]. And I know Steve Tisch, the owner of the Giants, has done it as well. Sean Avery has done it as well,” Strahan said, referring to a 2011 ad he recorded.

“I think society is a lot more accepting. … And at some point, you have to realize what you do for a living doesn't define who you are as a person.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
