Designer Nate Berkus says he knew on
their first date that he would someday marry The Rachel Zoe Project
alum Jeremiah Brent.
According to Us
Weekly, the couple has been dating 8 ½ months and Berkus
popped the question during a recent trip to Peru as part of a
shopping trip with home furnishings and décor retailer One Kings
Lane.
Berkus asked the question atop the
15th-century Inca site Machu Picchu.
“I've known since our first date that
Jeremiah was who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with,”
Berkus told PEOPLE.
“As we've shared the news of our
engagement and been met with so much excitement and support we're
both reminded of how important it is that every person have the legal
right to marry the one they love,” he added.
The 41-year-old Berkus, who became the
first openly gay man to host a nationally syndicated show with the
premiere of The Nate Berkus Show, has a new line of home
products being sold exclusively at Target and a new book, The
Things That Matter.
