Justin Bartha, who plays gay on the NBC
sitcom The New Normal, does not believe it is brave for him to
play gay.
Bartha (The Hangover) plays Dr.
David Sawyer on the comedy. David and his partner Bryan Collins
(played by Andrew Rannells) hire Goldie (Georgia King) to be their
child's surrogate mother.
Bartha joined the cast and crew of the
show on the PaleyFest stage earlier this month.
When moderator John Stamos, who plays a
recurring role on the show, asked Bartha whether it was brave of him,
and other straight actors, to play gay, he responded by saying that
he did not think so.
“In my mind, it wasn't brave,”
Bartha said. “But I do think that probably there are a lot of
people out there that still have a hang up whether ...”
“You guys make it look so natural,
the way you hold hands, kiss …,” Stamos interrupted.
Rannells said that affection between
couples is natural: “It's not a big deal. It's not a very special
episode of The New Normal if [me and] Justin kiss.”
The New Normal returns with new
episodes on April 2.
