MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts will
officiate the second wedding of Sam Champion and Rubem Robierb.
Champion, the weather anchor for ABC's
Good Morning America (GMA), married photographer Robierb on
Friday in his home in New York City. The 10-minute ceremony was
officiated by New York State Supreme Court Justice George J. Silver.
The couple married surrounded by family and friends, including Robin
Roberts, Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott of GMA.
Champion announced his engagement at
Roberts' wedding to Patrick Abner of Merck Pharmaceuticals' HIV/AIDS
division in September. Previous to that, Champion had not publicly
discussed his sexual orientation.
The couple will hold a second
celebration at a New Year's Eve party in Miami, Robierb's home town.
“It's an idea that they both came to
together,” a friend of the couple told The
Huffington Post. “The New Year's Eve ceremony will have a
much more party atmosphere to it. What better way to ring in 2013!”
The Florida ceremony is more symbolic
as the state does not recognize the marriages of gay and lesbian
couples.
