Canadian indie rock band Tegan and Sara
cover Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time.
Thirty-two-year-old identical twin
sisters Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Keirsten Quin collectively make up
the band.
After releasing six studio albums, the
openly gay twin sisters have become one of Canada's hottest musical
exports.
In a video released Thursday by
Billboard magazine, the women said Lauper has had an influence
on their music.
“My first memory of Cyndi Lauper is
from The Goonies movie,” Tegan says in the clip. “We
were like lifetime fans and she was always an influence. We started
out sort of like a punk band and they said it was sort of like a
cross between like Cyndi Lauper and the Mini Pops. And I remember
thinking that was like the best compliment we'd ever been given.”
Sara adds that they admire Lauper
because she “doesn't sound exactly like other pop stars. I think
that she was able to transcend … her voice is more characteristic
of punk music. There's something sort of quirky or left-of-center
about her delivery.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit

Heartthrob, the band's seventh
studio album, is due next month.
