Sir Ian McKellen is set to play gay in an upcoming British television series.

McKellen will star opposite Sir Derek Jacobi in the sitcom Vicious Old Queens, a comedy about an elderly gay couple living in Covent Garden, The British Comedy Guide reported. Both Jacobi and McKellen are gay in real life.

Vicious Old Queens will be 6 30-minute episodes set to air on ITV. It is written by Gary Janetti, a former writer and executive producer of the Fox animated series Family Guy and NBC's Will & Grace.

The British show is set to premiere in April of next year. There are currently no plans to broadcast the series in the United States.
