At the Elton John AIDS foundation's 11th annual An Enduring Vision gala in New York City, Elton John called AIDS a treatable disease.

The benefit was emceed by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper and attended by such notables as Stevie Nicks, RuPaul, Judith Light and Donna Karan.

Nicks, who also performed at the event, said John's foundation reminded everyone that the epidemic is not over.

“Elton reminds everybody every year that you cannot forget about this,” she told CBS News' Ken Lombardi on the red carpet. “It didn't just go away because everybody isn't talking about it as much.”

“In some aspects it's actually getting worse,” RuPaul's Drag Race host RuPaul said. “So it's important to bring attention and to help people who need it.”

“Until more people get tested and more people come out and say, 'I'm HIV positive,' then we're facing an uphill battle,” John said. “It's very much a treatable disease.”
