Actor George Takei and singer Ricky
Martin support President Barack Obama's reelection campaign.
Both openly gay celebrities have
recorded videos for the Obama campaign.
Neither video is directed towards the
LGBT community; instead Takei and Martin address the Asian and Latino
communities each represents.
“We have a unique opportunity to
support a president who is a part of us,” Takei says in his over
2-minute video. “He grew up in Hawaii – the Aloha Spirit. His
sister is half-Asian – he understands and loves the Asian American
community.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit
our video library for more videos.)
In his video, Martin speaks in Spanish.
“Consider this: there are 50 million
Hispanic Americans in the United States. Our vote will decide this
election, but only if we work together to make sure everyone knows
how important it is to listen in November.”
Martin goes on to say he's proud to
have a president who is fighting to reform the immigration system,
adding that the president supports the Latino community.
