MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts married
long-time partner Patrick Abner in a ceremony in New York City on
Saturday.
Roberts, 39, and Abner, of Merck
Pharmaceuticals' HIV/AIDS division, have been together 12 years and
announced their engagement via Twitter on June 25, 2011, one day
after gay marriage was legalized in New York.
Celebrities attending the rooftop
ceremony held at the Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel included singer
Chely Wright, actress Judith Light, activist David Mixner and
writer/commentator Meghan McCain. Former San Francisco Mayor Gavin
Newson officiated the wedding ceremony.
“Such a beautiful wedding this
evening,” Wright tweeted.
“Love is so beautiful,” McCain
messaged to her Twitter followers, “so honored to be a part of
tonight.”
Roberts, who came out gay in 2006,
previously told The
New York Observer that he does not believe that being the
first news anchor to marry a person of the same sex will hurt his
career at MSNBC.
“I am not objective when it comes to
equality,” said Thomas.
“And that means for all. I want it for you, for me, for
everybody.”
