Romi Klinger, a co-star of the lesbian
reality show The Real L Word, says she has faced backlash over
her decision to return to men.
Klinger first appeared on the show's
second season, identifying as a lesbian. She and girlfriend Kelsey
spent much of the season battling over sexual issues and Kelsey's
drinking problem.
In an appearance on HLN's Dr. Drew,
Klinger discussed returning to the show.
“The show didn't focus on my history
with men because at the time I was identifying as a lesbian. I had
been dating women. That's what the show is capturing. So that was
the story they told,” Klinger said.
When I was asked to return for season
three “my stomach dropped and I was like, 'I'm with a man.'”
“My life kept going. It didn't go
with the show. It was my life. And I found myself really
questioning whether I wanted to be with men again. And if that was
for me. And had I shut them out for the wrong reasons.”
Klinger said he knew she would face
criticism for her decision.
When Dr. Drew asked whether the gay
community was “hating on” her, Klinger answered “yes.”
“The fact that it's a man makes
lesbians go, 'Oh my gosh, she's doing it with a guy. How could she
do that to us.' But if you're a lesbian dating people it's okay for
you to fall in love with someone else. Leave someone, break
someone's heart,” she added. (The video is embedded on this page.
