Anderson Cooper was among the journalists honored over the weekend with a National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) Excellence in Journalism Award.

Steven W. Thrasher, who writes for the Village Voice, The New York Times and Out, was named Journalist of the Year at the group's UNITY 2012 Convention in Las Vegas.

BuzzFeed senior political reporter Chris Geidner was awarded the Sarah Pettit LGBT Journalism of the Year Award.

The recently out Cooper received the group's Excellence in Network Television Award for a three-part Anderson Cooper 360 special looking at the consequences of social conservative George Rekers' experiments on young children to alter their perceived sexuality.
