Target has released an ad for its
wedding gift registry which features a gay male couple.
In the ad, two very happy looking men
dressed in tuxes face each other and clasp hands under the headline:
“Be Yourself, Together.”
“Build a Target Wedding Gift Registry
as unique as the two of you,” the ad's byline states. The caption
“That's Love” appears in bold italics in the upper left hand
corner of the ad.
The advertisement comes a month after
the
retail chain offered a line of Gay Pride shirts for sale online.
One shirt included a graphic of a pair of rainbow-colored sunglasses.
Each of the four styles sold for $12.99 and $12,000 from the sale of
the shirts – which quickly sold out – was donated to the
Washington D.C.-based Family Equality Council, which supports gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgender families.
Earlier this month, Target
also began selling wedding cards for gay couples.
The moves come two years after Target
became the target of a boycott over its $150,000 donation to MN
Forward, a political action group that backed gay marriage foe Tom
Emmer's gubernatorial bid.
