Madonna and Lady Gaga are the biggest
“gay” stars and they happen to be straight, Scissor Sisters'
Babydaddy and Jake Shears have said.
Last month, the Sisters, which includes
Shears and Ana Matronic as vocalists, Scott Hoffman, known by his
stage name Babydaddy, as multi-instrumentalist, Del Marquis as lead
guitarist/bassist and Randy Real as drummer, released their fourth
studio album Magic Hour.
In a videotaped interview with the UK's
New Music Express (NME), Babydaddy and Shears said that being
gay remained an obstacle in the music industry.
“If a young musician came to … me
and asked what's your advice about being out in the music industry or
in whatever industry, you know I'd be hard pressed to say – I would
say, just be yourself – but I don't know if it'd be great advice if
they want to be the biggest pop star in the world. I still don't
know that people are ready to accept that.”
“The biggest gay pop stars in the
world, if you want to call them that, are probably Madonna and Lady
Gaga and they're straight women.”
“Gay role models I think is something
we're still working on,” Babydaddy added. (The video is embedded
