Versions of Carly Rae Jepsen's single
Call Me Maybe are proliferating on video sharing site YouTube.
Jepsen's original video for the hit
single went viral after fellow Canadian Justin Bieber tweeted that
the song is the catchiest tune he's ever heard.
In an interview with Time
magazine, Jepsen, 26, said she didn't think twice about making her
dream guy in the video gay.
“[I]t was totally my director's
idea,” she said. “We both knew we wanted the ending to be fun
and unpredictable, and when I read the idea, I loved it. It just
seemed so perfect.”
“When we shot the Call Me Maybe
video, we weren't even thinking the ending was not normal. I have so
many gay friends that I love. It's a regular thing.”
The video has inspired hundreds to
shoot their own videos, including a Star
Wars version featuring dancing Ewoks, an Abercrombie
& Fitch guys version featuring shirtless A&F men and a
military version featuring U.S.
Marines stationed in Afghanistan. (The video is embedded in the

Sesame Street's Cookie Monster recorded
his own spoof: Share
It Maybe. And, of course, a gay version titled Call
Me Gaybe features half-naked young men.
