Kathy Najimy, Richard Riehle and Dru
Bruin join stars Gerald McCullouch and Joe Conti in the comedy
BearCity2: The Proposal.
BearCity2, the sequel to the
2010 film BearCity, will premiere Friday at Outfest, Los
Angeles' LGBT film festival.
In the
2010 film BearCity,
twink Tyler (played by newcomer Joe Conti) delves deep into New
York's bear scene where he meets the man he's been dreaming of in
playbear Roger (Gerald McCullouch, CSI: New York).
After much sexual tension, the men admit their feelings to each
other during the three-day festival known as BearCity.
Now,
director-writer Douglas Langway and the whole cuddlesome gang are
back with new adventures as they take a break from New York to throw
a bachelor party for Roger and Tyler during Provincetown's Bear Week.
The sequel adds gay
icon Kathy Najimy (Sister Act/Sister Act 2, Veronica's Closet,
Drop Dead Diva) and veteran actor Richard Riehle (Fried Green
Tomatoes, Bridesmaids) to the cast.
Making a special
appearance is beefy, bearded male model Dru Bruin.
Speaking to GregInHollywood.com's Greg
Hernandez, McCullouch said he questioned whether he was right for the
original role.
“I didn't think I was really
cast-able in the role,” he
said. “The confident sexuality was a new terrain for me as far
as roles I had been given the opportunity to play in the past, so I
had huge concerns. And let's face it, when you look at me – I
ain't what you'd pin point as a 'bear'. But over the process of
making these films I've learned that the bear community includes the
entire animal kingdom: grizzly bears and polar bears and panda bears
and black bears and muscle bears. As well as otters and wolves and
silver foxes and gym rats.”
