Joanna Johnson and Crystal Chappell
will play a gay married couple on CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful.
According to TV
Guide, the storyline begins on May 16 when Johnson returns to the
daytime soap.
Viewers will find out that Johnson's
character, Karen Spencer, first introduced in 1991, has been living
with another woman for years.
It is the first gay romance for the
25-year-old drama.
Talking about the storyline, executive
producer-head writer Bradley Bell told TV Guide that kisses between
the women would be in the offing.
“Karen and Danielle are a modern
married couple, so wouldn't they kiss?” he rhetorically asked.
“We plan to discuss the real issues,
present some prejudices, and try to get people to move forward in
their thinking, instead of backward. I want to do this story because
I listen to all the political debates on the subject of same-sex
marriage and can't believe I share the same country with people who
think so differently about human rights. I want to put my hat in the
ring and, hopefully, help change some thoughts and opinions on the
issue.”
