Actress Fran Drescher will officiate
over the marriages of three gay couples in New York City.
Drescher, the star of cabler TV Land's
Happily Divorced, received her minister license to marry the
winners of Fran Drescher's Love is Love Gay Marriage Contest.
The online contest runs from
Valentine's Day to Monday, February 20 on the Facebook
page of Happily
Divorced.
“I'm proud to be an American and I
admire our constant strive towards liberty, justice and equality for
all,” Drescher said in a statement. “It is our duty to recognize
that injustice exists and shift national consciousness to correct
that injustice. Marriage equality is our opportunity to uphold our
constitutional values, to stretch beyond our comfort zone and mature
into a better version of ourselves. It is only by example that we
may continue to be a beacon of freedom for the rest of the world.
This is a no brainer, people; after all … love is love.”
Drescher will hand-select her top three
couples based on their love story and preside over their weddings on
March 6.
