Rick Santorum on Tuesday was doused
with glitter as he made his way to a podium during a campaign event
in Blaine, Minnesota.
“Feel the rainbow!” gay activist
Ben Egerman yelled as he protested Santorum's opposition to gay
rights. “No hate in our state!” (The video is embedded in the
right panel of this page. Visit
our video library for more videos.)
Santorum was the target of the third
glitter bombing of GOP presidential candidates in the past 6 days.
“We have now completed Minnesota's
Republican Fashion Week, having glitterbombed extremist candidates
Mitt
Romney, Ron
Paul and Rick Santorum, and interrupted Newt
Gingrich's campaign stop. We invite those who stand for equality
across the country to throw their own Republican Fashion Weeks to
give hateful politicians making the rounds this campaign season a
fabulous new look.”
Santorum has previously criticized the
practice of glittering as an attempt to “shut down free speech.”
“As far as I'm concerned this just
shows how intolerant they really are,” he said. “They're afraid
of the truth.”
