Retiring Massachusetts Rep. Barney
Frank is providing few details concerning his upcoming wedding to
longtime partner Jim Ready, but he showed reporters his engagement
band.
Speaking to reporters from the Boston
Herald on Monday, Frank provided few details about his
upcoming nuptials.
“We're getting married in
Massachusetts this summer,” he said.
And he acknowledged that being the
first married openly gay member of Congress was bound to receive some
attention.
“I suppose given my job it's
inevitable, but it's a personal thing. We're happy to be getting
married,” Frank said.
The 71-year-old Frank announced last
month that he and Ready, 42, were marrying. Frank and Ready, a
resident of Maine, first met at a 2005 fundraiser in Maine and began
dating in 2007.
Frank came out in 1987 at the age of
47, becoming the first member of Congress to voluntarily announce his
sexual orientation.
A proud Frank also showed off to
reporters his engagement ring.
“Jimmy is a … he's a handy man …
some welding .. so he picked this out,” Frank said.
Frank announced in November that he
would not seek re-election in 2012.
