In a new What Would You Do? one hour special to be broadcast Friday, more than a dozen New York diners step up to defend a gay couple being harassed by a man opposed to gay marriage.

In the scenario staged by ABC producers at the Prime Restaurant in Huntington, New York, actors Peter and Mark play a gay couple about to get engaged.

Before the proposal, Peter turns to Vince, another actor who is seated at the next table, and asks him to record the moment.

“I got to be honest with you, I'm not going to take a picture,” Vince says.

A stunned Peter asks, “Why not?”

“I don't believe in that kind of marriage,” he answers.

Fourteen people in all come to the couple's defense and one woman is seen breaking down in tears as the scene unfolds.

“I know plenty of people who are supposedly in a 'real marriage' that have broken marriages so … as long as they're happy, and do the right thing,” one woman says.

One man tells host John Quinones that he agrees with Vince: “There's Adam and Eve. Not Adam and Steve. It's not Biblical.” (A trailer for the show is embedded in the right panel of this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
