Mitt Romney's past statements on gay
rights are prominently featured alongside those of gay rights leaders
in an anti-Romney flyer.
The group American
Bridge 21st
Century is behind the pink flyer currently being distributed in
South Carolina.
“In honor of Pride Weekend, we
thought you'd like to see how much common ground there is between
Mitt Romney and some of the great voices of the LGBT rights
movement,” the top of the flyer reads.
One Romney quote – “We invest in
people and their freedoms when we defend civil rights, regardless of
gender, sexual orientation, or race.” – is paired up against a
quote from slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk: “All men are
created equal. No matter how hard you try, you can never erase those
words.”
An unattributed speaker is quoted as
saying that Romney supports “gays and lesbians being able to serve
openly and honestly in our nation's military,” followed by a quote
from former Army Lt. Dan Choi saying, “'Americans, regardless of
their orientation' should be able to 'server their country, openly,
honestly, with integrity.'”
The group behind the flyer bills itself
to be a “progressive research and communications organization
committed to holding Republicans accountable for their words and
actions ….” ABC
News called the group an “anti-Romney, Democratic-allied super
PAC.”
