Eric Stonestreet, who plays gay dad Cameron on ABC's comedy hit Modern Family, talked gay parenting during an appearance Friday on ABC's The View.

On the show, Cameron and Mitchell (played by openly gay Jesse Tyler Ferguson) are raising adoptive daughter Lilly and planning for a second child.

“The feedback has been 99.9 percent positive,” Stonestreet said. “I think we were all prepared … to not be able to make the gay community happy with whatever we did and I think we were ready for the blowback, if you will, from the more conservative parts. But we honestly haven't gotten it.”

“Slowly but surely, I think Modern Family – and Cam and Mitch specifically – are having some impact on showing people that you don't have to be a man and a woman to give a child a beautiful, wonderful, loving home,” he said.

Stonestreet, who won an Emmy last year for his role on Modern Family, went on to thank the show for giving him a platform to announce that he's openly straight. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
