The gay news site 365Gay.com will cease
operations on September 30.
The news and entertainment website
devoted to the LGBT community announced its demise on Saturday.
“With the help of James Withers,
who's been freelancing for the site since September 2007 when he
began writing for our election blog Visible Vote, and an incredibly
dedicated, talented group of freelance writers, reporters, columnists
and interns, 365gay has covered almost five years of amazing gay and
national news,” wrote editor in chief Jennifer Vanasco.
“Now, it's coming to an end,” she
added.
All-gay cabler Logo, which is owned by
Viacom's MTV Networks division, acquired 365Gay, lesbian
entertainment website AfterEllen and gay male entertainment website
AfterElton in 2006.
According to Vanasco, its parent
company “has shifted its online strategy and so the site is
closing.”
In 2009, Logo shut down its gay-themed
newscast, 365Gay News Powered by CBS News, which was one of
the first offerings by the nascent network. 365Gay News
premiered as CBS News On Logo in June 2005. The show
initially presented news items throughout the channel's broadcast
day, but starting in 2007 the show acquired a permanent slot on the
network's weekly schedule.
At the time, Logo said it would
continue to do news on 365Gay.com.
