Actor Zachary Israel “Zach” Braff
on Wednesday said a coming out statement on his website was fake.
The 36-year-old Braff is best known for
his portrayal of Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian on the NBC sitcom Scrubs,
a role which has earned him
critical acclaim, including an Emmy and three Golden Globe
nominations.
Braff said he had been “hiding this
secret inside me for too long” and “The human mind can only bare
so much before it explodes in emotions” in the coming out statement
published on his website.
“I am excited and proud to announce
that I am an open member of the homosexual community,” the
statement read. “This is not news to those closest to me, and I
honor that they have kept it a secret for such a long time.”
Braff's representative told
celebrity gossip website TMZ.com that the posting was fake: “He
was hacked … that site has been down since 2006.”
In a Facebook post, Braff denied he was
gay: “My old website got hacked. Someone issued a 'coming out'
statement on my behalf. I'm still straight and in love with my
girlfriend. But not too straight; I still love musicals, brunch and
Doogie Howser.”
